Colleges and universities often ask students with a break in studies to explain the gap in an affidavit. The affidavit states the last exam passed, the period of the gap and the reason, and confirms there was no misconduct.

AFFIDAVIT FOR GAP IN EDUCATION
I, Anjali Verma, D/o Shri Rajesh Verma, aged about 29 years, by occupation Service, residing at House No. 21, Sector 15, Rohini, Delhi 110089, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:
- That I passed Class XII from the Central Board of Secondary Education in 2023.
- That I did not pursue any regular course of study from June 2023 to June 2025 because I was preparing for competitive entrance examinations and was also unwell for some months.
- That during this period I was not involved in any criminal or unlawful activity and was not rusticated or debarred by any institution.
- That I am seeking admission to B.Com (Hons) at ABC College, Delhi and this affidavit is made for that purpose.
